CMB wins mortgage banking award

Cooperative Mortgage Bank has won the 2020 excellence award in mortgage banking in Nigeria, beating other competitors to the prize.

Organised by the Nigeria Housing Awards, one of the major aims, according to the Chief Executive Officer, Festus Adebayo, is to recognise and celebrate original and innovative contractors, consultants and projects that demonstrate excellence in the building and construction environment.

Speaking during the award in Abuja, Adebayo said the initiative was also established to encourage competition and competitive pricing in the housing construction industry.

While thanking the organisers of the award, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of CMB, Kabir Ayinde-Tukur, expressed his gratitude for the recognition of his company.

According to him, the award would motivate CMB to step up its effort in ensuring affordable homes for Nigerians, thereby bridging the housing gap.

He said, “Cooperative Mortgage Bank will strive to remain outstanding in the housing industry as it continually seeks to provide quality and affordable housing for all classes of individuals.

“As a cooperators’ bank, our business goal is to ensure that every cooperator, through their cooperative societies, become home owners. True to our goal, the bank has made tremendous effort as it embarked on a national tour in conjunction with the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria, sensitising cooperators across the federation on home ownership and how they can access it through mortgage.”

Ayinde-Tukur pointed out that despite CMB success at the ceremony, it was not time to celebrate. He said the challenges encountered in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic widened the existing housing gap for Nigerians, while appealing to stakeholders to narrow the gap in 2021 through mass-friendly housing initiatives.

He added, “This recognition means a lot to us as a company but more importantly, the award initiative must be seen as a call to challenge our collective effort in the industry. Globally, all sectors went through a difficult year 2020, but this must not extinguish the zeal in us to build affordable housing units for Nigerians through flexible means.”
